7.0 Determining the Effectiveness of Audiovisual
Cancer Education Materials for African Americans

Even with information obtained directly from members of the African-American community, some parts of the audiovisual cancer education material still will not be understood by or culturally sensitive to all African-American audiences. Pretesting the audiovisual cancer education material provides information on how well the audience comprehends and accepts the material. Focus group meetings and key informant interviews are methods to help determine how well the cancer prevention message reaches the African-American audience.
