Nurse
Oncology Education Program (NOEP) -
Upcoming workshops for nurses. Texas' Nurse Oncology Education Program (NOEP)
provides updated information about cancer prevention, detection,
treatment and rehabilitation to registered nurses in all practice
settings. Since its creation in 1987, NOEP has offered more
than 500 workshops statewide, providing more than 110,200 hours of
training to more than 65,000 health care professionals. NOEP
helps nurses gain critical skills to help them incorporate
cancer prevention and control principles into their clinical
practice. The NOEP is funded by the Texas Cancer Council.
Physician
Oncology Education Program(POEP) -
P-O-E-P Spells State-of-the-Science in Cancer Control
The Physician Oncology Education Program of TMA will bring
state-of-the-science continuing medical education to locations
across Texas as part of its 1999-2000 seminar series. Assisted
by a local physician and each region's medical community,
POEP will target primary care physicians' needs in cancer
prevention, screening and early detection.
POEP will also present symposia on the latest developments
in cancer including genetic evaluation, treatment of cancer
pain, and updates on cancer prevention and screening. By partnering
with the American Cancer Society, the Nurse Oncology Education Program
and the San Antonio Cancer Institute, the POEP will ensure
that these programs reach clinicians with timely, relevant
information.
The mission of the Physician Oncology Education Program (POEP)
is to provide Texas physicians and physicians in training,
including medical students, with the knowledge and the skills
necessary to reduce the burden of cancer on Texans. Toward this end, the
program offers CME not only through POEP's programs and symposia
but through modules on eight cancer sites and a CD-ROM on
breast cancer. These original materials offer physicians easy
access to CME on cancer control topics important in every
primary care practice.
The POEP is guided by a Steering Committee of twenty-two professionals
including representatives from each medical school in Texas,
specialty societies and other related organizations. For more
information on the program, contact Andy Miller, Program
Manager, at (512) 370-1673 or e-mail to andy_m@texmed.org.
The POEP is funded by the Texas Cancer Council.
