Texas
Population
The Texas Cancer Data Center provides easy access to data on
the population of the state of Texas. The TCDC population database
currently includes data for 1990 through 2010 and
contains resident population data by age, sex, and race/ethnicity
for each Texas county, State Planning Region, Public Health
Region, and Texas as a whole. Data are updated as available
from the U.S. Census Bureau for decennial counts and
from the Texas State Data Center, (210) 458-6543 and the Center for Health Statistics, Texas Department of State Health Services, (512) 458-7261.
The racial/ethnic groups represented are: Non-Hispanic White, African American, Hispanic, and Other Races. Age categories are divided into 18 age groups: 17 five-year intervals for ages 0-84, and one category for age 85 and above.
Sources:
- Population data for 1990 are census numbers adjusted according to US Bureau of the Census recommendations. Total population
data from 2000 are from Summary File 1 (SF 1) official census. The data have been reaggregated by race for the racial/ethnic breakdowns.
- Population
data for 1991-1999 and 2001-2003 are estimates and for 2004-2010 are projections. Estimates and projections are from the Texas State
Data Center.
- The age breakdowns for 75+ (75-79, 80-84, 85+) are census numbers for census
years (1990, 2000). Age-specific data for non-census years are adjusted to the census estimates by the
Texas State Data Center.
